Frank Hobden (1859-1930)
Hobden lived in South Benfleet, and made its locality the subject of a number of landscapes. His works are often on a small scale, very closely controlled tonally and painstakingly finished, as if they were miniatures. He also illustrated a number of books. He exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, RA, RI, ROI and RBA, to which he was elected in 1901.We are grateful to Chris Mees for his assistance.
